Coaching
Personalized storytelling coaching for college, careers, and beyond
At Revision Learning, coaching is about helping people tell true, meaningful stories with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Whether you’re applying to college, preparing for interviews, or figuring out how to articulate your experiences more powerfully, our expert coaches meet you where you are in the process. From brainstorming to final polish, we provide structured, personalized support that helps writers strengthen their thinking, sharpen their writing, and own their story.
Our goal is simple: to help every student and professional communicate who they are, what they value, and why their story matters.
Our Coaching Approach
Whether we’re coaching students applying to college or professionals shaping their career stories, all Revision Learning coaching:
Begins with lived experience as the foundation for story
Emphasizes reflection, specificity, and growth
Balances structure with creativity
Is tailored to individual goals, context, and timelines
Is delivered live, 1:1 on Zoom
Coaching can stand alone or be combined with platform access and written feedback for deeper, sustained impact.
Coaching Format
We offer personalized 1:1 coaching designed to meet students and professionals where they are and support them through every stage of the storytelling process. Because people learn and revise differently, coaching is flexible, combining live conversation, written feedback, or both, depending on what best supports a client’s learning style, goals, and timeline.
Live coaching sessions are ideal for students and professionals who benefit from talking ideas through in real time.
In live sessions, Revision Learning coaches work directly with clients to:
Brainstorm meaningful story ideas
Shape and refine drafts or spoken stories
Clarify structure, focus, and reflection
Practice telling stories with confidence
Sessions are collaborative, reflective, and practical—designed to help clients leave with clarity, momentum, and a clear next step.
Live 1:1 Coaching
Written feedback is ideal for writers who like to work independently and revise on their own schedule.
Asynchronous coaching may include:
Question-based, in-line comments on drafts or story outlines
A highlighted rubric that shows what’s working and where to focus next
Actionable revision strategies that support independence and confidence
Feedback is designed to be clear, supportive, and instructional, helping writers understand how to strengthen their work, not just what to change.
Written / Asynchronous Feedback
Coaching Focus
Revision Learning offers coaching in two primary content areas: college admissions essays and career storytelling. While both are grounded in the same storytelling framework, each focuses on different goals, audiences, and outcomes.
College Essay Coaching
Focused on helping students tell authentic, reflective stories for college applications.
Revision Learning’s College Essay Coaching helps students craft authentic, compelling college essays that reflect who they are—not what they think admissions officers want to hear.
Our expert coaches support students at every stage of the writing process, from early brainstorming to final revisions. Rather than editing students’ work, we focus on teaching students how to think, revise, and strengthen their writing so they leave with both a strong essay and stronger writing skills.
Students receive personalized guidance to:
Identify meaningful experiences and moments worth writing about
Develop clear structure and narrative focus
Strengthen reflection, detail, and voice
Revise with confidence and independence
How Coaching Works for College Essays
College essay coaching can include live conversation, written feedback, or a combination of both, depending on how a student learns best and where they are in the process. Live sessions support real-time brainstorming and workshopping, while written feedback supports independent revisions.
Live 1:1 Coaching (Zoom)
Live sessions focus on talking through ideas and workshopping essays in real time. Students use sessions to brainstorm story ideas, clarify what matters most, talk through structure, and make decisions about focus and reflection with coach guidance.
Written / Asynchronous Feedback
Written feedback supports the revision process between sessions. Coaches provide question-based, in-line comments on drafts along with a highlighted rubric that shows what’s working and where to focus next, helping students revise with clarity and independence.
All coaching is grounded in the Moments Method®. In both live coaching sessions and asynchronous review, coaches may use question-based, in-line comments and a highlighted rubric—tools built using the Moments Method®—to help students tell more interesting, authentic stories in their own voices.
Story-Based Rubric
A visual rubric that shows exactly what’s working and what needs attention. We use the Revision Learning College Essay Rubric to assess your essay’s submission readiness across five key attributes:
Story
Moments
Structure
Details, Dialogue + Description
Grammar
In-Line Comments
Question-based notes and suggestions directly on a student’s draft that prompts reflection, clarify thinking, and highlight opportunities to deepen detail, strengthen structure, and sharpen focus, guiding students to make intentional revisions while preserving their authentic voice.
How Coaching Works for Career Storytelling
Grounded in the Moments Method®, career storytelling coaching adapts to a client’s goals, context, and communication needs and may take place through live conversation, written feedback, or a combination of both.
Live 1:1 Coaching (Zoom)
Live sessions often focus on practicing and refining stories out loud. Clients use these sessions to rehearse interview stories, talk through career transitions, test introductions or elevator pitches, and build confidence speaking about their work in real time. Coaches offer guidance, questions, and feedback in the moment to help clarify structure, focus, and impact.
Written / Asynchronous Feedback
Written feedback is used when clients want targeted guidance on drafted materials or written career stories. Coaches review cover letters, sample career story drafts, or written responses and provide clear, actionable feedback to strengthen clarity, organization, and storytelling—so clients can revise thoughtfully and apply those skills across contexts.
Coaching Options
We currently offer two ways to work with a Revision Learning coach. Clients can choose the option that best fits their goals, learning style, and timeline.
One-on-one Zoom sessions focused on real-time thinking, reflection, and storytelling practice. Live sessions can be used to brainstorm ideas, workshop drafts, practice spoken stories, or prepare for interviews and applications.
Live 1:1 Coaching (60 minutes)
Asynchronous Story Review
Structured written feedback on a draft or story materials, ideal for clients who prefer to revise independently or want targeted guidance between live sessions. Reviews include question-based, in-line comments and, when applicable, a highlighted rubric to help clarify strengths and next steps.
